Title: LUMINESCENCE STUDIES OF RARE EARTH DOPED CALCIUM ALUMINATE PHOSPHORS
Authors: MADHUKUMAR, K; RAJENDRA BABU, K; AJITH PRASAD, K C; JAMES, J; ELIAS, T S; PADMANABHAN, V; NAIR, C M K
Abstract: Photoluminescence (PL) and Thermoluminescence (TL) properties of Cerium (Ce3+)
and Terbium (Tb3+) singly doped and multidoped monocalcium aluminate phosphors
are studied. The suitability of monocalcium aluminate material as a luminescent host
is analyzed. The nature of trap centers and the possibility of energy transfer between
the dopant ions are discussed. The suitability of the material for radiation dosimetry
application is also studied

Flux Pinning Properties of Magnesium Diboride Added (Bi,Pb)-2212 Superconductors

Title: Flux Pinning Properties of Magnesium Diboride Added (Bi,Pb)-2212 Superconductors
Authors: Vinod, K; Abhilash Kumar, R G; Biju, A; Sarun, P M; Syamaprasad, U
Abstract: Microstructure and flux pinning properties of polycrystalline (Bi,Pb)-2212 system with varying levels (0–0.2 wt.%) of MgB2 was studied. Phase
analysis, microstructural investigation and superconducting characterization were performed to evaluate the performance of the samples. The
addition brought about novel features in the layered microstructure of (Bi,Pb)-2212 for critically added samples which resulted in an unusual
enhancement of the flux pinning strength of the system. The self field JC (304 A/cm2) of 0.1 wt.% MgB2 added sample is more than 50% that of
undoped sample (201 A/cm2) and in 0.8 T field, it is about 50 times that of pure sample at 64 K.

Effect of Mg on the Fracture Characteristics of Cast Al–7Si–Mg Alloys

Title: Effect of Mg on the Fracture Characteristics of Cast Al–7Si–Mg Alloys
Authors: Thirugnanam, A; Sukumaran, K; Pillai, U T s; Raghukandan, K; Pai, B C
Abstract: The fracture behavior of Al–7Si–Mg cast alloys mainly depends on the size and shape of eutectic silicon particles and iron-rich intermetallics.
These can be altered by many ways such as, chemical modification, cooling rate, magnesium content and iron-rich intermetallics. Magnesium
increases the matrix strength, but decreases the ductility. Further, cast Al–7Si–Mg alloys can be strengthened by heat treatment processes to attain
desirable mechanical properties. Crack tortuosity, crack branching factor (CBF) and tendency of crack propagation through eutectic regions are
quantified in order to study the formation and growth of fatigue crack. The crack propagation in the Al–Si–Mg alloys depends on the morphology
of silicon particles, cell size and Mg content. The fracture toughness values measured are found to decrease with increase in magnesium content
at the optimized T-6 heat treated condition
