Abstract: pi-Conjugated macrocycles consisting of thiophenes and benzenes exhibit benzenoid features for 4n pi macrocycles, whereas (4n + 2)pi macrocycles are annulenoid due to rapid interconversion between quinoid and Kekule canonical forms in the benzene units.
