Abstract: Silicone rubbercompositesfilledwithmicro-andnano-aluminawerepreparedandtheeffectoffillercontentsonthemicrowave dielectric, mechanical,thermalandmoistureabsorptionpropertieswereinvestigated.Thecompositewith0.45volumefraction(Vf) of micro aluminahasarelativepermittivity(er ) of5.89anddielectricloss(tan d) of9 10–3 whereas 0.05volumefractionofnano-alumina has er of 3.52andtan d of 1.97 10–2, respectivelyat5GHz.Theexperimental er and tan d values ofsiliconerubber-micro-alumina composites werecomparedwiththatoftheoreticalmodels.AmongthetheoreticalmodelsModifiedLichteneckerandParallelmodelare in goodagreementwithexperimentalvaluesof er and tan d respectively. Thesiliconerubbernano-aluminacompositeshavebetter mechanical properties.Thecoefficientofthermalexpansion(CTE)ofcompositesdecreasedandthemoistureabsorptionincreasedwith increasing amountoffillerloading.Theimprovedpropertiesindicatethatthesiliconerubber-micro-aluminacompositeisagood candidate foraflexiblemicrowavesubstrateapplication. & 2013 ElsevierLtdandTechnaGroupS.r.l.Allrightsreserved.
