dc.description.abstract A new series of yellow pigments of the formula [(Li0.5La0.5)x Bi1 x][Mox V1 x]O4 (x ¼ 0,0.1, 0.2, 0.3,0.4, 0.5) were prepared via a solid state method. The structural, morphological and colour characteristics of the tetragonal scheelite pigments were analysed. Various shades of toxic metal free pigments were obtained ranging from reddish to greenish yellow as a result of a blue shift of the absorption edge with substitution. Addition of various mineralizers significantly enhanced the yellow hue making it better than a commercially available BiVO4 pigment. The NIR reflectance of BiVO4 is enhanced with substitution and addition of a mineralizer. The colouring applications of the prepared pigments in poly(methyl methacrylate) and asbestos cement sheet demonstrate their potential application as environmentally benign yellow colorants. en_US
