Abstract:
LuNbO 4 :xEu 3+ (x=0, 0.03, 0.1 and 0.15) red phosphors were prepared through a conventional solid state method. Powder X-ray diffraction patterns and Raman studies confirm the monoclinic fergusonite phase of Eu 3+ doped phosphors. In LuNbO 4 :xEu 3+ , overlap of host lattice emission spectra with the Eu 3+ 7 F 0 − 5 L 6 transitions resulted in strong near UV excitation around 394nm. Eu 3+ ions give strong electric dipole transition dominant red emission at ~613nm (λ ex =394nm) as it occupies a non-centrosymmetric site in fergusonite LuNbO 4 , and the emission intensity is double that of commercial Y 2 O 3 :Eu 3+ phosphor.
