In this work, corn starch (CS) based nanocomposite film incorporated with silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) + guava leaves extract (GLE) solution was successfully prepared using the casting method. Functional properties such as mechanical property, water vapor permeability, opacity, swelling index, and solubility of the nanocomposite films enriched with varied content of AgNPs + GLE solution (5%, 10%, 15%, and 20% v/v) were evaluated and compared with CS film. AgNPs + GLE solution content in the nanocomposite films improved the essential functional properties as well as UV blocking capacity. FTIR spectrum presented the improved intermolecular interaction between CS matrix, AgNPs, and active compounds. SEM images showed that the films reinforced with AgNPs + GLE solution are smooth, homogenous, and continuous surface without signs of phase separation among the CS matrix and AgNPs + GLE solution. Also, the nanocomposite solution exhibited excellent antibacterial activity against S. aureus as compared to P. aeruginosa. Obtained outcomes suggest that the CS-based film added with AgNPs + GLE solution, which was developed from discarded guava leaves, can be utilized as a reinforcing, antibacterial, and UV blocking agent in the nanocomposite film soon. |
