dc.description.abstract The hydro-distilled oils from fresh leaves and fibrous roots of two local cultivars of Ginger (Zingiber officinale Rose) viz. Kozhikkalan and Vellinchi were analysed by GC abd GC/MS. Fifty compounds were identified in the oil from leaves and roots. Kozhikkalan leaf oil contained beta-caryophyllene (22.5%) and vellinchi leaf oil contained alpha-humulene (28.1%) as major compoud, while the root oils contained ar-curcumene (28.8%) and zingiberene (26.2%) as major compounds, respectively. en_US
