dc.description.abstract The vellar river has been studied for grain size distribution and textural parameters namely average mean, sorting, Skewness, kurtosis. Analyzed the sediments are characteristically fine sand indicates low energy condition, moderately well sorted, equal weitage of positive and negative skewed with very leptokurtic and very Platykurtic nature. Linear discriminate function (LDF) of the samples signify Aeolian, shallow marine deposition environment. The heavy mineral assemblages are dominated by silumanite and illumanite. With in the amphibole group and pyroxene group minerals are green and brown hornblendes are dominant. Other important heavy minerals present in minor amounts are zircon, epidote, garnet and apatite en_US
